Why all the Discontent with DMOZ?

I have been browsing the web looking at a few blogs, and I have noticed there is this growing contention that DMOZ has it out for them and won’t list their site. Personally, I don’t understand this notion at all, as DMOZ is nothing more than a volunteer edited and maintained directory.

I just started this site recently, and I have yet to submit to DMOZ. I probably will submit it anyways for good measure. This blog isn’t listed in DMOZ at the moment, and its not the end of the world if it is not listed. I think many folks feel DMOZ is a listing service, and its not, its merely a free web directory. If a high directory listing is that important to you, then why not just submit your business site to the Yahoo Directory and pay the fee?

The Yahoo Directory is free for non-commercial sites, business sites must pay the cash to get into the Yahoo directory. Many don’t realize, that DMOZ is offering business class listings for free. Thats right zero, zilch, nadda. So why so much of the hate going on towards DMOZ?

I am not even going to go there about DMOZ editors taking bribes because that in my opinion is just downright ridiculous. I very highly doubt that is going on, that is probably just a bunch of people mad their site didn’t get listed, complaining and trying to ruin DMOZ’s reputation.

I say this, follow the ODP Submission Guidelines, Submit your site, and forget about it. If the ODP doesn’t list your site, don’t take it personal, move on.

I do not work or have ANYTHING to do with ODP or DMOZ, I am simply stating an opinion. This site is not currently listed in DMOZ, and I plan on suggesting it. If it gets listed, great fine and dandy, if not oh well.

its not really that big of a deal. I really think some people just need to grow up.

The fact of the mater is this DMOZ can list whoever and whomever they choose, and they can choose to not list who they want. As far as i remember, its still a free country. If you don’t like it, submit the site someplace else, but for goodness sake quit the whining about DMOZ…its really getting old.
