Yahoo and Microsoft. Can they beat Google?
As you may or may not know, Yahoo and Microsoft recently announced a merger of sorts. Yahoo Search will be taken over by Microsoft Bing, and Yahoo will provide advertisements on both search engines for 10 years. This deal is monumental because Bing will gain most of Yahoo’s internet search traffic. Yahoo has the second largest search share behind only Google who some estimate that Google makes up over 70% of the overall search market. In other words “Google it”.
So the question remains, will this new deal with Yahoo give Microsoft and Bing a real chance against Google?
In this bloggers opinion, not a chance in the world!
There is no way Bing will ever have a chance of dethroning Google. Google owns the could right now, and the search market and there isn’t much Microsoft can do about it at this point. Google is where Microsoft currently is with operating system in regards to the search market. Furthermore, Google offers much more than search with cloud offerings such as Google apps, Google docs, photos, video with Youtube, etc.
Microsoft got to the dance here a bit too late. I just don’t see how Bing is going to help them even with Yahoo dethrone Google. Microsoft is spending Millions of dollars advertising Bing and in the meantime Google is working on its Google Chrome Operating System to chip away at Microsoft’s desktop market with the goal still being to hold on to the search engine market. Google Chrome OS will be well received because it has the Google brand on it, that alone will allow it to get 1% or so of folks to use it.
Yahoo Slurp is a better search crawler than msnbot (Bing’s Crawler) I just wonder if Yahoo Slurp technology will be used to improve Bing?
