Rogue Security Applications Suck!

I have noticed lately a completely staggering amount of encounters with these Rogue Security Applications. These rogues are NOT legitimate security applications. Instead, they try to trick the user into installing them ,and then claim their computer is infected with viruses wanting the user to input their credit card number to clean their computers. THESE PROGRAMS ARE SCAMS NEVER GIVE THEM YOUR CREDIT CARD NUMBER!

These rogue security applications come in many flavours in fact, too many to name in those blog post. They come with these names like WinAntivirus 2010, XPAntivirus2010, Vista2010 Internet Security, and a host of other names for their crappy scareware. I have seen many users are confused by these applications because to the average joe they look like legitimate applications however, their intent is very sinister. The intent of these applications is to RIP YOU OFF and in many cases steal your identity. BEWARE OF THESE FAKE ROGUE SECURITY APPLICATIONS!

Its sad because currently the security vendors like Symantec, and others who are supposed to provide top of the line AntiVirus, Antispyware, and other security protection have not performed very well in detecting these rogues. If they did, there would not be anywhere near as many infections that I am seeing with these rogues.

I just wish they could hunt down whoever is responsible for creating these dreaded rogue applications so we can get them off the internet. It is becoming a major headache to deal with these things on a daily basis. It is getting to the point that you better keep your Windows systems completely patched and keep your Security software patched to the max constantly and keep those definitions updated as often as possible because there just seems to be no end to the madness concerning these scamming scareware products and those who make them.

It also seems they are turning their attention not only to search engines, but also to social networking sites. I had 4 complaints today of people when visiting Facebook would get confronted with a screen claiming they were infected with viruses. When looking at it, sure enough a rogue being pushed trying to infect a users machine. Also, today folks over at the Trend Micro Forums are complaining about being infected with a rogue after being on Facebook or other sites. It seems nothing is safe anymore.

It is getting to the point that you might be better off switching to Linux unless you can get a corporate grade UTM (Unified Threat Management System) like Untangle (which is open-source and free) which can readily protect you from these things with AV+Snort+Attack Blocker + Professional Firewall and more built into one package.

If your infected with one of these rogues, it seems Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is the best at removing them and keeps up with the new ones the quickest.

BEWARE OF THESE ROGUE SECURITY APPLICATIONS. I REPEAT THEY ARE A SCAM! NEVER GIVE THEM YOUR CREDIT CARD OR ANY INFORMATION!
