Today, I come to you with a more somber tone. As a webmaster, this blog focuses primarily on internet and computer related topics. It also includes commentary on social networking and social media. However, this post will differ from all the other posts on this blog. Today marks another sad chapter in the world of social networking and social media.
In October of 2006 the social networking site Myspace was used as a vehicle of cyberbullying by unscrupulous people that resulted in the suicide of 13 year old Megan Meier. Technorati is probably the most popular blogging community on the internet. Technorati ranks blogs by popularity using its unique authority system. Its very simple how it works. The more claimed Technorati blogs that link to you, the more Technorati authority your blog gets. The more authority you have, the higher you rank in Technorati. Overall, its a pretty simple system.
Google takes a blog’s Technorati authority into account somewhat as posts will get indexed much quicker if a one has their blog listed in Technorati because it is crawled so often. This means you will have less of a wait time in getting your content indexed.

As anyone who has a blog knows, combating spam can be one of the most aggravating endeavours a blogger ever undertakes. It seems like every time new spam combating technologies come out, its not too long before the spammers get around them. This can make it extremely frustrating to keep your blog free of spam even with services like Askimet.
After doing some research on pingbacks, I came across a WordPress plug-in called Deep Link Engine. Even though this plug-in is hosted on the WordPress Official plug-in page, I can’t see any reason why anyone would want to use this plug-in. It reeks of spam if I have ever seen it. This plug-in is often used in conjunction with autoblogging as what I can gather from the Deep Link Engine official web site.

Google Analytics it seems the de facto choice today for web metrics solutions. I’d say on average over half the internet uses the Google tracking service to see how many visitors they get to their sites.
